I have been on an incredible journey. Together with my good friend Maryanne and our guide and chauffer. We travelled through fabulous Ethiopia for three weeks by Jeep. Not for one moment did we feel un safe - in fact we felt totally and utterly discreetly looked after at all times. Our guide- profoundly knowledgeable and our chauffer- a super safe driver. We spent a day up in the breathtaking Simien Mountains with a huge group of Gelada baboons-walking among them, sitting down to draw them: they accepting our close proximity. We had close encounters with a herd of hippos and a whole gang of crocodiles. But above all it is the people of Ethiopia that moved us: warm, engaging, curious, and welcoming wherever we went in markets or in villages. There is so much more to tell- you must go and see for yourselves. I am a grandmother and have travelled all over the world but never have I had such a thoroughly well-organized, varied and ecstatic trip. 'We absolutely loved the beautiful country and the friendly people of Northern Ethiopia. Our guide is an extremely knowledgeable and he organised an amazing holiday for us. There is so much to experience, the incredible rock hewn churches of Lalibela, the beautiful Simien Mountains where we saw the rare Walia Ibex and Gerallta Baboons, Gondar Palaces, Lake Tana and island monasteries, riverside picnics, local markets, talking to the children, everyday life in Ethiopia, and much, much more. Our Driver, who did most of the driving, got us to most inaccessible places both safely and comfortably, even to places we saw other tourist vehicles giving up on. We were totally looked after by everyone involved, in an easygoing, friendly manner, with a sense of humour, while at the same time having our own space, and nothing was too much trouble. We're travelling again with Abol-Touch Tours in a couple of months, this time to Southern Ethiopia, and also plan a third trip next year to the salt plains in the Afar.' "
